Land of Singular Landscapes, Land of unique Species. The Somontano, crowned by the Sierra Natural Park and the Canyons of Guara, draws a surprising landscape of transition between the plains of the valley of the Ebro and the high summits of the Central Pyreneans. The farming of Mediterranean flavor, grapevine, almonds and olives, sometimes won by centuries of efforts on the slopes, seem as canvases that the seasons dye of intense colors. In this wavy landscape of open horizons, proud rocky crags stand erected, their own name chiselled through time.


Land of Precipices, Land of Sports, Land of Adventures. Millions of years ago, the rivers on their way to sea, have fit themselves in the deep cracks of the rocky walls of the start of the Pyrenees. Slowly they have modeled the innumerable gorges of the Guara mountain range, giving origin to a landscape of doubtless spectacularity, unique in Europe for the practice canyoning. The rivers Vero, MascĂșn, Alcanadre and the precipices that crease the mountain range invite you to intensely enjoy nature.

Land of Legend, Mysterious Land, Magical Land. thousand-years-old cultures left their track on the limestone, between the cavities that the waters have carved. The images drawn in the caves of the Guara and Estadilla mountain ranges are the first artistic expression of prehistoric man. The testimonial value of these cave paintings, was the basis for the creation of the Vero River Cultural Park and has fully deserved its categorazation by UNESCO as Patrimony of the Humanity.
Land of History, Land of Monuments and Art. Agitated medieval times have left their testimony in parochial hermitages and in ruins of fortresses or urban settlements like Alquezar. In the XVIth and XVIIth centuries the constructions of religious buildings is intense and well represented by the magnificent Cathedral of Barbastro and its high ribbed vaults. Temples were also built during the Baroque era creating a new and full art. Today, contemporary art also contributes leaving its mark onto the landscape.

Land of Gastronomy, Land of Almonds, Land of Craftsmen. The culture of the orchard, legacy of the Muslim past of this land, offers fruits of excellent quality: thistle, borage, curly endives, peppers, asparagus, tomatos... These vegetables, combined with the flavorful meats of pig and lamb, give rise to exquisite dishes that will surprise the lovers of the good table: thistle with sauce of almonds, marinated pork, Aragon roast of milk lamb, alcorzao with asparagus, chiretas...


Land of Wines. Land of Olives. The grapevine, great miracle of the field, is the greatest gift from the land. Great doses of work and wisdom, turn grape juice into elixir and the grape grower into an alchemist. Tasting Somontano's wines you will be victim of the spell that has managed to catch the sun, the aromas, the flavors, the colors, in definitive the sap of this earth, that causes the opening of a bottle to become a ceremony that blurs the senses.


Land of Encounters, Land of Pilgrimages, Land of Celebrations and Land of Traditions.

The Somontano people's spirituality was reflected in churches and hermitages, stony testimonies of an unshakeable faith to the passage of the centuries. In days of pilgrimages the oration becomes celebration and around the small hermitages the neighboring towns meet. The Somontano counts on an important sanctuary of pilgrimage in Torreciudad, a stage in the Mariana route that connects the Pillar basilic of Zaragoza with Our lady of Lourdes, in France.
